Day 1: Chicago

When we rolled out of Madison I was crying so hard I could barely see the road.  Not exactly the best way to start a road trip.  We had a few hours before we got to Chicago so I was in a better place when we picked up Ryan.  He flew into O'Hare and we picked him up there.  Then we decided to stop at Navy Pier for one last trip.  Chicago has become one of our favorite spots over the last four years.  I've been known to throw the kids in the car and do a day trip down there!  We've also made it a family tradition to go down to kick off the Christmas season.  The kiddos love to see the zoo lights, visit the Hershey store, and go to the Children's Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, Planetarium, Aquarium, etc.
One of my favorite things at Navy Pier is the Ferris Wheel.  I am ridiculously afraid of heights so it is an anxiety filled ride for me.  My kiddos love it so I go.  Fear is a learned thing and I love that there is very little that affects them!  RJ talked us into letting him ride the crazy swings and my heart was in my toes.  I used to love to ride those swings when I was younger.  Now I look at them as a dangerous.  Little moments like these give me a greater appreciation for what our parents went through.
Since it was our last trip for awhile we stayed for a long time.  I was planning to make it all the way to New York on Day 1.  Wrong.  It was totally worth it though to see my babes in a place that is so familiar and happy.  Chicago is definitely one of my favorite places in the world!
